1 Book-Fold
BOOK-FOLD (American, official)A form and a method of putting up and packing in convenient form, used for the shipping and storing of fabrics of a wide width. This is in contrast to the form and method of rolling fabrics of broad width, either on to paper tubes or on to heavy cardboards like a bolt. The goods may or may not be doubled in the centre to one-half their width, and are thus folded in successive layers of an equal length, usually of 11/4 yard to each layer, until the entire piece is " done (put) up " in folds with the respective mill-ends being lapped inside the first or last fold. Hence the piece is placed on to a white tissue paper which is wider in width than the folds. The tissue is in turn protected by a medium stiff " buff and white " wrapper that tallies in width with the width of the folds. The piece is next put (packed) into book-fold by tucking both ends of the folds in with the respective tissue paper and the buff and white wrapper, while in the width overlapping stubs of tissue paper are tucked under the buff and white wrapper. ———————— A finisher's term to indicate that the cloth has to be in such a way as to open like a book from the centre, with the folds resembling the leaves of a book. -

[He was a wise, pious, and just king, but his chief fault was that he loved his person to an inordinate degree. Desiring to celebrate a sacrifice by virtue of which he could go up to heaven in his mortal body, he requested his family-priest Vasiṣṭha to officiate for him; but being refused he next requested his hundred sons who also rejected his absurd proposal. He, therefore, called them cowardly and impotent, and was, in return for these insults, cursed and degraded by them to be a Chāṇḍāla. While he was in this wretched condition, Viśvāmitra, whose family Triśaṅku had in times of famine laid under deep obligations, undertook to celebrate the sacrifice, and invited all the gods to be present. They, however, declined; whereupon the enraged Viśvāmitra. by his own power lifted up Triśaṅku to the skies with his cherished mortal body. He began to soar higher and higher till his head struck against the vault of the heaven, when he was hurled down head-foremost by Indra and the other gods. The mighty Viśvāmitra, however, arrested him in his downward course, saying 'Stay Triśaṅku', and the unfortunate monarch remained suspended with his head towards the earth as a constellation in the southern hemisphere. 12 Bundles
BUNDLES, PRESSEDAre made up of a series of knots of 10 hanks each, which are hung on a bar or hook and twisted, then doubled ready for fixing in the press. The heads of each knot are placed at one end of the press to form the face of the bundle. The machine having been charged, and the pressure put on, the bundle is tied up and the pressure is released. (Cotton twine is best for tying purposes as it is not liable to mildew). After wrapping with paper, the bundles should be stamped with the counts. For further protection the bundles should be provided top and bottom with cardboard. In pressed bundles it is usual for the number of knots to correspond with the counts of yarn bundled, so that whatever the counts pressed, the weight of the bundle is the same. Thus, if a bundle contains 200 hanks of 20's, and there are 10-lb. in a bundle, the number of heads in the bundle represents the counts. In making up doubled yarn the number of heads mutiplied by the fold in doubling gives the counts. Thus, two-fold 20's would show ten heads, and three-fold 36's twelve heads, etc. On this principle a knot of folded yarn is the same length as a knot of single, but this rule is not always applied. -

18 Camel Hair
The soft downy hair from the haunches and under part of the camel. Length of fibre is 4 in up to 10 in. The yarn is a soft worsted type and much used for carpets, hosiery, hatting, dressing gowns rugs etc. Spun into about 30's counts and then into two fold or three fold yarns. This hair is strong and soft and of a brown colour, and it is difficult to bleach. Each animal yields about 10-lb annually. The longer and coarser hair is used for belting. Obtained chiefly from China and Russia. On arrival in Bradford the hair is scoured carded and combed, and the tops and noils produced are a regular market article. There is a steady consumption of the long hair in the carpet industry and of the noils in the hosiery and hatting trades. A certain quantity of coarse hair is used in the belting industry, and a smaller amount is used in making waterproof hoods for motor cars. Dyed blends of strong hair and wool are sometimes called camel hair and are sold for making filter cloths and other mechanical services. The best " camel's hair brushes used by artists are said to be made from squirrel tails hair of the camel is almost never used for brushes. -
